About
The work is already required. We tell you where.
New York City requires buildings to inspect their facades, gas pipes, parking garages and retaining walls on a schedule. When an owner falls behind, the city records it: a violation, a fine, an inspection rated unsafe. Those records are public, but they're spread across a dozen city datasets and written in code.
Overdue reads them twice a day, works out which buildings must hire a plumber, a facade contractor or an engineer, and sends each one to a few firms who do that work nearby, with who decides and how to reach them.
What we believe
- Say only what the record says. Every building links to the city record behind it. We never call a building dangerous; we say what the inspection found.
- Fewer firms per building. No more than 5 firms in a trade get the same building, so a lead is worth calling.
- Plain English. No acronyms without an explanation, and no 40-column reports.
